Well, as most of you have heard, I had a beautiful baby girl on July 3rd. You will all laugh at the beginning of labour for me. As you may have noticed I posted that Huggies commercial on July 3rd. Well my water broke because of that, seriously. I was laughing so much about it, and then all of a sudden, I stood up and there was that odd sensation and then, ooppps, my water broke! I first I managed to get upstairs and called Dave. Then I called my parents and told them it was time. This was all about 2:10pm in the afternoon. I started to get really nervous. I finished getting things for my hospital bag and Dave got home in good time. We called Christa (Caleb's sitter) and then we called Fern to ask her to pick Caleb up from Christa's and take him home where my parents would be waiting for him.
We got in the hospital at 3:15pm, at this point I was getting contractions about 6 mins apart. There was thick meconium in the water again (like with Caleb), so in triage, they hooked me up to the monitor and then the nurse came in to check me to see how dilated I was. It was then where she discovered that the cord was down around the face of the baby. It was at that point panic set in and I was terrified. No one told me what was going on, I just know that little triage room was loaded with nurses giving me needles, taking off all my clothes and jewelery, putting oxygen on me and all the while the first nurse still had her hand up in me. It was not fun to say the least. She rode on the bed with me, on me, and in me. She was holding the baby's head up. It wasn't until I read O.R. on the door of the room they wheeled me in that I knew I was going to have a c-section. It was terrifying. They rolled me on my side and tried to give me a spinal, which was so painful and scary, after some time, the man gave up and looked me in the eye and said, "I'm going to put you to sleep" At that point I was o.k. with that. She was born at 4:09pm. I was in the hospital less than an hour before Amberly entered the world. Dave wasn't able to see either. I just remember coming to and a nurse was in my face saying, "you have a beautiful baby girl" I was so confused. I didn't know where I was really. Then I got into the recovery room and saw Dave sitting in the corner holding a pink bundle. I had to ask about her, her weight, what she looked like and if she was perfect, because she was so wrapped up I couldn't see her. She only weighed 6lbs. 11oz and was 19&3/4 inches long. Her size alone was another shocking thing for me. Almost half of what Caleb was!
Now I was in the hospital for 3 days. I didn't enjoy it, and recovery really sucks. I'm an emotional wreck, I feel completely overwhelmed and scared and sad, I feel guilty when it comes to Caleb, I really missed him. When I got home he didn't want to have anything to do with me, and I was so heartbroken. Last night he finally cuddled with me while watching his tv show and I just sat there crying. Even now, typing this out makes me emotional. Life is going to be tough for the next few weeks. I can't lift Caleb, nothing more than Amberly they tell me. Not only is life hard for me, but it is for Dave too, I'm completely relying on him. He has this week off which is wonderful.
Anyway, I don't know what else to share with you all for now. Once I have more time, I'll post pictures. I think she looks like Caleb at birth. But I have a baby girl. Who would have thought!
