Loving this song these days. Loving it!
I thought about this long and without much effort and decided to try this, seeing how I enjoy reading some of my friends blog, why not give them the pleasure as well??? We'll see...

A Quiet Night
This week at Christa's is "Camp" week. Yesterday she took the kids to the Floridale dam and went fishing. Caleb caught 10 catfish and even Amberly caught a couple. They set up their tent in the back yard and made crafts revolving a campfire. Today was more events surrounding the camp theme, and tonight she's having the kids sleep over in the tent! So my son was so excited today. He got to take his sleeping bag and pillow and pj's. Amberly didn't stay, she's quite young and I didn't want to hold Christa back from certain activities with the older ones. When I came to get Amberly, Caleb was so happy not to be leaving! I actually got a big hug and kiss from him before he said "Bye Mommy" and "Bye Amberly". He was excited that Amberly had to go home and not him!
I miss him terribly though. I have the homesick feeling for him.
I asked Amberly what she wanted to do with Mommy tonight and she said she wanted to ride in her stroller. I said that was a great idea and after supper we would do that. Well I totally forgot that Benji took the stroller home for us due to our lack of space on the weekend. When I told her that, she again repeated the issue to me over and over again. All I could do is laugh. "Unckey Benji has my stroller" and the tone in her voice, it sounds nasally and almost raspy, it's hilarious. We had our bike stroller which was fine for her, but even on our walk she brought up Benji and the stroller. She's just so funny. More and more every day she's getting more words and more personality, I just take in every moment. She's beautiful. Dave and I love her so much!
After getting her to bed, Dave went to baseball, and now here I am, home in a very quiet house.

An Adventure in the Wetness
In a convoy of 3 vehicles, my brother's Benji and Stephen, along with Sally, Krista, Brooke, and us drove through some rain heading to Goderich to camp for the weekend. As we approached Point Farms the sky seemed to brighten up which brought some relief. After a few visits to the registration office we found our sites for the weekend, and began to set up camp. It didn't take Amberly 5 minutes to get covered in mud. Our site had a couple good sized puddles. So the easiest thing to do was just strip her down.

The humidity was thick, so on top of the wet conditions, my body felt constantly damp. Lake Huron was such a refreshing retreat. The water was the perfect temperature. All the kids loved the beach.

We were lucky to avoid rain for Friday night, we had a nice campfire and got the kids settled nicely. The campfires seemed to be a favourite for the kids.
Amberly took comfort in this tiny bath. She's pretty adorable. She's going to fit in well with 2 brothers. No fears of getting right in the mud and getting all dirty. No hesitations towards bugs, it's a reflex to swat or squash any bug that is close by. And yet, look at her beauty....

Saturday wasn't too bad. It rained heavy in the afternoon, but before that, everyone (except for me) went for a nice hike and we got down to the lake for a little bit to cool off. Our kids had a nap in the afternoon, and that is when the heavy downpours arrived. It lasted for a while, but it didn't dampen our spirits. Once it was finished, we were able to enjoy a good supper and a beautiful sunset down at the beach.

I do know that I won't camp in August with my hubby. This past weekend was a bit too much for me. The awkwardness of bending down to get in tents and getting up from the ground from sleep seemed to pay a price on my pelvis. The bathrooms weren't conveniently placed, so I had quite the walk to get to them. At night I had to get up 3 times to go to the bathroom, I just peed outside of the tent! And to get going in the morning Sunday after waking up didn't go over so well with my stomach. After enjoying some blueberry pancakes, I was hit quickly with the urge to puke. Which I did, behind our tent. However, despite all those experiences, we made good memories, the kids loved their time, and I just enjoyed being with family for the weekend.
Some funny things that I won't forget is Steve was roasting a weiner over the fire while Sally was having issues of lighting sparklers for the kids. She asked Steve to do it, and he proceeded to say "Well you come over here and hold my.....hot dog" There was a pause in that sentenced and I just burst out laughing....Another thing was we hooked up our dvd player in the van for the drive, and when we were leaving Sunday, we were going to go to Goderich for a bit. I didn't turn them on. Well Amberly repeated I don't know how many times "Mommy, my tv's not working" I would tell her I didn't turn it on and she would stop and think about it and say "oh" only to turn around and say "daddy, my tv's not working" The drive from the campground to Goderich was filled with her repeating the issue about the tv and my responding to her that I didn't turn it on.

It was Lovely
Our week was wonderful. I didn't know what to expect with this cottage that we rented. I'm so used to spending a vacation in a tent, what a pleasant change we encountered. It had all the comforts of a home, but it wasn't home, it was a nice relaxing change. The kids loved it. We went to the beach every day, we fed chipmunks, watched the rabbit graze the grass, swatted mosquitoes, played games, watched movies, ate good food. It was an amazing, restful time.
I think my favourtie part was seeing my husband actually relax and see his enjoyment on his face. At home, we're so busy with things, having to be in places at certain times, and at the cottage, I could watch my amazing husband lay on the floor and put a Dora puzzel together with his daughter, and sit at the table and colour with his son and listen to the kids just "chat" with him. Don't get me wrong. Dave is an amazing father, he always spends time with the kids and helps with them entirely, but maybe the difference of this past week, was that maybe I was able to actually sit back and watch his relationship with the kids, something I don't normally take in while at home. Here they are the 3 of them. This cuddle routine happened almost every night.
We stopped in at the local convenience store to buy a bag of peanuts to make friends with the chipmunks. The 2 kids waited patiently on the steps for them to arrive.
This was at the beach we went to every day. The kids again loved this part. If you were to ask them now what their favourite part of the cottage was Caleb would say splashing in the water and Amberly would say "Beach".

On Wednesday we took a day trip to Port Elgin. I wanted to see Deb and Shaun and their newest edition William. What a cutie he is, very much like his big brother I think. While there, we also took the kids to the beach and rode the little train around their part.

I think we'll do this again next year. With a little babe to watch, I think the cottage idea is much more appealing than tenting for a week. Although don't be surprised if we change our minds when the time comes.
One funny story....There was a deer head mounted on the wall in the living room. How the kids didn't notice this right away is beyond me, but it wasn't until Dave said "That deer is plugged in" that they actually looked up and saw it. Literally at the same time, they both had panic appear on their faces. Dave climbed the ladder that was close by (it was leading to a loft) and pushed a button, and the darn deer actually sang. It opened it's mouth and started to utter "I'm caught in a trap" all the while swinging his head up and down and side to side. Well, Caleb was totally terrified, he ran into the kitchen screaming. So quickly Dave shut it off. I was able to calm Caleb down and took both kids to the bathroom to brush their teeth (yes this all happened just before bed!) Dave turned the tv on, and the sound of that sent Caleb into another panic "He's doing it again Mommy, he's turning it on again Mommy" Poor kids. Another day or so after that, we discovered the deer was connected to a microphone, so I was able to sing "A B C" into it, and that was o.k. the kids didn't run from the room, but they both continued to stare at it with fear in their eyes. Amberly would go to bed and look up at it, and I told her to say nite nite to it and so her little voice would tremble a little bit and say "nite nite deer" It was hilarious. If I were to ask Caleb to tell someone about the deer, he will say "No, I won't talk about the deer Mommy".
It's things like this that I want to remember. I love my kids DEERly!

Heading Out for Holidays
Motivation. I'm trying to find the motivation to actually start the process of packing and getting ready for our week away. This year we've rented a cottage up the Bruce Pennisuila. It's a new adventure for us, something we haven't done before. Our friends are heading up to Lake Superior with out us this year, and although there's a big part of me wishes to be going with them, I'm glad we'll have beds to sleep on and a retreat from rain if need be.
So instead of folding the newly dried laundry I'm sitting here, blogging. I know I should get in gear, get our clothes folded, then wake the kids up from nap and start packing a week's worth of clothes for each of us (it's always more than a weeks worth, try like a months worth because you never know what will happen with a 3 and 2 year olds!)
We hit the road Sunday. Tomorrow morning we'll spend getting ready, getting groceries together and then Dave and I have a wedding to attend for the evening. Sunday I'm sure we'll be all miserable trying to make sure everything fits and that we in fact have EVERYTHING we'll need. But once we're in the van and on our way, I think I'll finally flip into holiday mode. It's a lot of work getting ready to go away for a week with children. But I know in the end it will all be worth it! (and we're only 20 mins from civilization as opposed to an hour in Superior, so if we forget something, it's not a big deal!)

My Baby Girl is Two Today
Amberly turns 2 today. I got a little choked up this morning watching her play with some of her new babies and equipment. Maybe it's these crazy pregnancy hormones or maybe it's just the realization that my baby girl isn't a baby anymore. She's quite independent, spunky and adorable to boot, and Dave and I just love her to bits. She's full of energy and attitude! She makes us laugh unexpectedly, like today when she said "Caleb don'ted me" or she gets this deep tone in her voice when she's about to agree with you and out comes "O K" like a monster. She's my little girl. I find it hard to believe that it was 2 years ago already that I experienced that crazy labour and delivery. It's not something I look back on fondly, especially now, knowing that I'm in for something unexpected again in about 12 weeks. But I do remember seeing that tiny little girl for the first time, all wrapped up so tight in her daddy's arms and asking Dave, "Is she perfect?" She was such an alert little girl, watching her watch me in that hospital room. Even though it was a scary delivery and hard to forget, I got the best thing out of it, and I know it was all worth it, and I would do it all over again for the precious miracle that God blessed us with.
Yesterday began her birthday festivities when my whole family came for the day. We celebrated not only Amberly's birthday, but Brooke's 5th and Buddy's birthday as well. We all went over to the pool and swam for a good hour, then back to play inside and out. We had a pizza party really, and it was just a fun filled day. Amberly was spoiled with a couple of babies, some new clothes and jammies, an outdoor chair, Dora playdoh and a book. She also aquired some money which we used today by outfitting her with her very own life jacket. Tomorrow we'll have Dave's parents, Mike and Joy and some of our other friends over with their little ones to celebrate as well.
We had a great Canada Day. We headed on an adventure to a place we've never been before. We went to Downey's Farm just north of Brampton. I've never been there before, but used to drive past it often in my younger years. It was a strawberry festival and admission was free. It was a lot of fun, perfect for the kids they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Meetings new animal friends, playing in sand, climbing on ships and tractors and watching dogs run crazy after balls. We had fun. The picture above was done by moi! We were heading out to a baseball game, and because I miss the fireworks (way too late for our kids!) I thought I would make the game festive, and the kids loved it!
